What artists influence our own work?

So I decided to share with you all, some other artists who I feel influence my own personal work. (I tried to stick with artists who I feel use the figure in a variety of different ways.)

This is Ashley Wood, a contemporary illustrator.
He paints a lot of girls, robots and cats.
He also produces graphic novels, one of the most popular being, Popbot

This is Marjane Satrapi from Rasht, Iran (she now lives in Paris, France).
Some of you may know her from her book, Persepolis- which was made into an animated film.
If you aren't familiar with the story of Persepolis, I highly recommend it!
This is Os Gemeos, Brazilian twins, who make collaborative street art- mostly using the figure!
They're awesome, you should definitely get to know them.
This is Mel Kadel, one of my favorite contemporary illustrators!
She is from the US, living in California.
(She did her freshman year at MassArt!)

More Ashley Wood
This is Megan Brain, a contemporary illustrator from California.
She primarily works with cut paper, often doing caricatures of the figure!

This is another long time favorite artist of mine, Farel Dalrymple.
He does graphic novels, my favorite being, Pop Gun Wars, about this character.

For next Saturday, I'd like each of you to bring in a couple samples of your favorite artists who represent the figure in a way that inspires you.
Print them out and get ready to talk about what influences you!

Some of our work!

Here is some of your work!

Some great contemporary artists

Hey friends,

So I've complied a few links to share of some of my favorite artists, who I feel have particularly strong and interesting figurative works.

Carson Ellis

Craig Thompson

Yuko Shimizu

Dave Cooper

So these are just a few examples of what some people are doing today with their figurative work!
I hope we can all share some of our favorite artists here, and discuss what it is we like about them.

Feel free to leave comments sharing your opinions about these artists.
Do you like them?
What about their work do you like, or do not like?

See you Saturday for some figure drawing!!
